The Merchant's Lesson
Once upon a time, there lived a rich merchant in a city. He had earned a lot of money from the sea trade. He had a daughter and a son. He had held his business for a long time. But now he was old and wanted his son to take over his business. But his son had become lazy and restless. He had neither the practice nor the desire to work hard. Even his father's scolding had no effect on him. He was very careless.

Hearing the father's words, the son went to his mother and started crying after telling what father his father told him. His mother could not see the tears rolling down from her son's eyes. She secretly opened her chest and took out a coin from it and gave it to her son.

At night the father asked the son, "What did you earn today?'
The boy took out coin from his pocket and gave it in front of his father. The father said, "Go, throw it in the well." The son, without thinking much, threw the coin into the well and rested as usual. Seeing this, the father understood from where he got this coin.
The next day he called his wife and refused to give him coin or money to the boy. The next day the merchant called his son again and said, you will not get food. "Go! Go out and earn something, otherwise you won't get food tonight."

Hearing the father's order, the son again went to his mother. But this time his mother did not give him the money. Now the boy went to his sister and started crying. The sister opened her box, took out a rupee from it and gave it to her brother.
At night the father asked the son, "What did you earn today?" The boy took out a rupee from his pocket and placed it in front of the father. The father said, "Go, throw it in the well." Without much thought, the son picked up the money and then threw it into the well and slept without worry. Seeing this, the father understood from where he got this money.
He immediately called his daughter and refused her to give money to the boy in future. Two days later the merchant called his son again and said, "Go! Go out and earn something, otherwise you will not get food tonight."

The boy again went to his mother and sister but both refused to give him the money. Both advised him to obey his father. The boy sat in his room thinking sadly and got up in the evening and went to the market. After walking here and there for some time, he met a Seth.
Seth said to him, "Take my attache and take it to my house, I will give you two annas in return." The merchant's son picked up the attache and carried it to Seth's house. In this work his whole body became sweaty and his body got tired and crushed.
At night the father called the son and said, "What did you earn today?" The son took out two annas from his pocket and placed them in front of his father. The father said again as usual. "Go, throw them in the well."

Hearing the father's words, the son's eyes were filled with tears. He stood silently bowing his head in front of his father. The father repeated his point again, "Why are you standing? Go, throw them in the well." This time the son said with some courage, "I broke my neck to earn these two annas and you say that I should throw them in the well.
The merchant understood everything from his experience that this time his son has earned these two annas by his hard work. The very next day he handed over all his business to his son.
Thus the merchant taught his son to earn by working hard.
