A long time ago a king ruled in Awadh. He had three boys. All three were very educated, intelligent and virtuous.
One day the king called all three of his princes to take the test. He wanted to know what are the views of the three of them in the matter of punishing a guilty.
"Suppose," he said, if I entrust the responsibility of protecting my life and my honour, and he turns out to be unfaithful, what punishment should he be given?

The eldest boy said, "Such a man should be beheaded immediately." The second boy said, "I think so too. Such a man should be given the death penalty. No mercy should be shown to him." . "
The third boy remained silent.
"What's the matter, my son?" The king asked him, "You didn't say anything, what do you think?"
'Sir," said the little prince, "it is true that the punishment for such a misdemeanor can be nothing but death. But before sentencing it must be clearly and completely proved that he is indeed guilty. ,
"That is, in your opinion, if this is not done, even an innocent man can be killed." The king asked.
"Yes," replied the prince, "it may be so. For example, let me tell you a story."
The prince started saying the story.

The king of Vidarbha country had a unique parrot. The name of that parrot was Himshuk. He lived like a pet bird in the palace. Himshuk was very clever. He could speak several languages. He was wise enough that often even the king used to take his opinion on important matters.
Himshuk did not live in a cage. He used to roam freely as per his wish. One morning he flew out of the palace and left for the forest. There he accidentally met his father.
"How glad I am to meet you," said his father, "your mother will be equally happy to meet you." Can't you come home for a day or two?"
“I also had a great desire to come home,” Himshuk said, “but for this I will have to take permission from the king. ,
Going back to the palace, Himshuk asked the king for permission to go home. Initially, the king did not agree to let him go. He respected Himshuk very much and did not want to be separated from him. But in the end he agreed. He even allowed Himshuk to go home.
You can go home and spend a few days with your parents," said the king to Himshuk,
"But come back as soon as possible."
'Very good lord,' said Himshuk, "I will be back after fifteen days." After this Himshuk went to his father and they both, flying together, set off for home. After so many years his beloved son His mother was very happy seeing Himshuk.
After staying with his parents for a fortnight, Himshuk said to them, “My these days are yours.
I have passed very happily with loved ones, but now I have to go. The king will be watching my way. ,
Himshuk's parents were saddened to hear of him leaving so soon. But they could not stop him. Himshuk had promised the king that he would return after fifteen days.
“We want to send a gift for the king,” said Himshuk’s father, “but I don’t know what to send. ,
Both Himsuke's mother and father began to contemplate what could be a gift worth giving to the king. After thinking for a while Himsuke's father said, “Aha, I understand what can be the best gift for a king. Away from here on a hill there is a guava tree. Whoever eats its fruit never dies and remains young forever. I go there and pluck a fruit. You give that fruit to the king."
As soon as he got the fruit, Himshuk left for the king's palace. Evening had befallen. In no time the sun set and there was a thick darkness of night all around. Himshuk intended to spend the night sitting on the branch of a tree. But before that he wanted to keep that precious fruit in a safe place. Luckily he found a tree with a hollow hole in its trunk. He put amaranth in that hole and sat down on a branch nearby and started relaxing. In no time he fell asleep.
That hollow hole in the tree was home to a poisonous snake. When the snake came back, its eyes fell on the shining amaranth.
He thought it might be something to eat. The snake dented the fruit. But he did not like the taste of the fruit. He left her like that. But at the time when the snake blew its teeth on the fruit, some poison also came out from its teeth. The fruit was also poisoned by the poison.
The next morning, Himshuk picked up the fruit and went on his journey. Upon reaching the palace, he met the king and presented Amarfal on behalf of his parents.
The king was so happy after getting that magical fruit that he decided to hold a court before eating the fruit. His ministers and all the members of the royal family were present in the court. The king picked up the fruit in front of everyone, but as soon as he was ready to eat, the chief minister interrupted.
"Your Majesty, just wait", said the Chief Minister, "it would be wise to see the fruit before feeding it to an animal. If the animal doesn't have anything, you can eat it too. ,
"The suggestion is great," said King. He cut the fruit and threw a small piece towards a crow. The crow ate the fruit and died as soon as it ate it.
"Your Majesty," said the minister, "you are narrowly left today. The fruit is poisonous. It is not immortal but death fruit. It is also clear that Himshuk wanted to kill you by feeding on the fruit." The king was furious with anger. He caught hold of Himshuk and without thinking he blew his neck. After this he ordered that the poisonous fruit should be buried in a deep pit outside the city.
The fruit was buried in the ground. But after some time his seed started sprouting and growing and growing became a full tree. After some time, very beautiful, shiny, golden fruits appeared in that tree.
When the king heard about that strange tree, he said, "Those fruits are poisonous, the fruits of death." The king ordered that a fence should be built around the tree and that the tree should be guarded at all times so that no one Even those poisonous fruits could not be eaten. The news of the death spread throughout the city. People started getting scared even to hit near that tree.
In those days an old man and his old lady lived in that city. They were very poor. He didn't even have any helpers. They were somehow surviving on the kindness of others. Due to old age, he became so weak and helpless that he could not even go to beg. Due to frequent frowning, he started to feel that it is useless to live now. Both thought that it was better to die than to live like this. The best thing to do was to eat the poisonous fruits of the tree.
One night the old man secretly went near the tree and, avoiding the sight of the guard, entered the enclosure. He plucked two fruits from the tree and took them straight home. On reaching home, both he and his old lady ate one fruit each. Thereafter he lay down on the bed with the hope of dying immediately.
But the next morning, as usual, his eyes opened again. He was very surprised to find himself alive. Even more surprising was that both of them became young, their earlier agility and strength had also returned.
When the king heard this strange thing, he also went to see both of them. He was stunned to see them really young. Now he came to understand that the fruit that Himshuk had brought was the real amaranth. He felt very sorry for his haste, for killing his beloved parrot like this innocently.
"That's why I say," continued the little prince, "before punishing anyone,
It is necessary to find out completely whether he is really a criminal or not." The king was so pleased to hear the words of his third son that he made him the crown prince.
