SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN ESSAY

Introduction

India was once called the golden bird and was known for its splendor and culture. But due to the change of time, many external forces ruled our country, due to which the condition of our country worsened.

In our country, no attention is given to cleanliness at all. You must have seen that in any big state of our country or city or village or any street or locality – you will find garbage there too.

What is Swachh Bharat Abhiyan?

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a national cleanliness campaign established by the Government of India, which covers roads, walkways and many other places in 4041 statutory towns. This is a big movement under which it was said to make India completely clean by 2019. This mission was launched on the auspicious occasion of Bapu's birthday on 2 October 2014 (145th birth anniversary) and is targeted to be completed by 2 October 2019 (Bapu's 150th birth anniversary). The campaign has been implemented by India's Ministry of Urban Development and Drinking Water and Sanitation in both rural and urban areas.

Why was Swachh Bharat Abhiyan started?

The campaign, which started on October 2, 2014, aimed to make India 'Clean India' by 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Gandhiji. What better tribute to Gandhiji than seeing the India of his dreams. It is worth thinking about, why was this necessary? I have seen many times that people still go outside even after having toilets in their homes. Because they have developed such a tendency. This movement was started to change their thinking. Changing the thinking of rural people is a difficult task.

Its first objective is to free India from the trend of open defecation. Under this, the government constructed toilets in every village. Also appealed to the people to use these toilets. Give up the habit of going outside. Not only this, camps are organized at various places to spread awareness among the people and they are made aware of its benefits through street plays. With the help of Gram Panchayats, proper waste management is also taught in all the houses. And water pipeline has also been laid in every house. India has a population of 125 crores, more than half of which still lives in villages.

If we look at the statistics, according to the 2011 census, approximately 72.2% of the 16.78 crore households live in villages. And you will be surprised to know that toilets are being used only in 5.48 crore houses. This means that people in 67% of the households still do not avail this facility. According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in 2012-13, 40% of rural households have toilets. 60% is still left. If we talk about government expenditure, the estimated amount for 5 years is Rs 62,009 crore and in this the assistance of about Rs 14,623 crore has come from the Central Government.

Start of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was inaugurated by Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 2 October 2014 on the occasion of the 145th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Addressing the gathering at Rajpath, he asked the nationalists to participate in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and make it a success. This is the biggest campaign in terms of cleanliness. Because Gandhiji's dream was that our country should also appear completely healthy and clean like other countries. Keeping this in mind, the Prime Minister had started this campaign from Rajghat in Delhi on his birthday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji had swept the streets in Valmiki Basti of Delhi to spread awareness about cleanliness among the people. So that the people of the country become aware that if the Prime Minister of our country can sweep the roads to clean the country, then we too have to keep our surroundings clean to keep our country clean.

Purposes of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a national level campaign. Prime Minister Modi ji has made a 5-year plan to achieve the main objective of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, under which the target has been set to clean our entire country.

Need of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

The work of this mission should continue in India until its objective is achieved. Physical, mental, social and intellectual welfare of the people of India have realized it is absolutely necessary. This is truly to boost the social and economic condition of India which can be started by bringing cleanliness everywhere. Here are some points which show the need for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan –
  • There is no place in our country where garbage is not spread. Every city, every village, every locality, every street of our country India is full of garbage and filth.
  • Due to lack of toilets in the villages of our country, people still go to defecate in the open due to which dirt spreads everywhere and this dirt invites new diseases.
  • All the rivers and streams around us are filled with garbage as if garbage is flowing instead of water.
  • Due to this garbage and filth, people from abroad less like to come to our country, due to which our country suffers economic loss.
  • Due to this waste, along with us, other living beings are also harmed and our earth is also polluted.
  • It is very important that every house in India has a toilet and there is also a need to eliminate the trend of open defecation.
  • Recycling and reusing municipal waste, safe disposal, implementing scientific sewage management.
  • To create global awareness among people living in rural areas and to connect common people with health.
  • To increase the share of private sector in developing sanitation facilities across India.
